Great that you've made it to the home of FEED THE RAT.
Welcome, have a look around. We're a community of skiers, climbers, paddlers, base-jumpers, mountain-bikers, cave-divers, surfers, snowboarders and adventurers from most of the other arenas.
Have a look just below under the Latest Update section and also at the end of the last Happenings page; we often post a snapshot there too.
LATEST UPDATE: SATURDAY 21st MARCH, 2008
* A struggle right to the end but there was beer and steaks waiting, so definitely a fight woryh fighting. More here at the end of the Week 2 section. An epilogue for the trip here …
* This is good, here’s the next step on the use of Wingsuits. “Cool” is a grossly overused term but here it’s deserved. When Loic Jean-Albert aka The Flying Dude is asked: “How close to the road will you get?” He answers: “About ‘ere …. hopefully”. And hopefully ‘ere too, vid 17
* Diazo Inoaka is a very unusual unit. Originally from Japan, Diceman has chosen to break free of the pressure to conform which is a hallmark of Japanese society and start a new life in New Zealand. Kiwi authorities didn’t recognise what they have in this migrant and almost slung him out but commonsense prevailed. Dice’s most significant attribute? His sheer enthusiasm for doing what all of what he does; it’s ridiculous ….. he’s just so into this stuff.
While English was not his first language, he paints a vivid word picture of his passions, see his latest trip here (which serves as his VERY overdue Profile) and more from NZ here
Below are from the last week or so ...
* Under the text is an invite to a presentation Beau Miles is running for those who can get to it and a good reminder to get some material from him about his latest trip, 4,000 k's around Africa by sea-kayak.
* Sam Fulbright gives a fresh account of his recent paddling trip to Chile. Looks perfect, see H10 for an outstanding pic and area overview or Sam’s full babblings here
* CUMEC Issue 4 is out and Antz Longman should be suitably proud, go here for a snapshot of what’s in store and the cover pic below….
* A note on how James Rowlinson’s paddling results looked are at the bottom of his page here and a couple of his vids at #16 here
* Travel in the European mountains using Via Ferrata’s is very established and really pretty safe. So from China, here’s how NOT to do it. It’s got it all; totally dodgy anchors, bits of chain and padlocks, old planks and not a harness or biner to be seen. It’s simply a joy to behold, so do so here at H9 or the full spectacular here.
* Have a look at Ram and Georgia’s 2008 Nepal itinerary regarding their rafting, kayaking, trekking and cultural trips to:
Balephi Khola, Bhote Kosi, Sun Kosi and lower Tamur Rivers, October 11-25 2008 Karnali River, October 24th-7th November 2008 Tamur River, November 6-20th 2008

Quote of the week:
“Boredom kills and those it does not kill it cripples and those it does not cripple it bleeds like a leech, leaving its victims pale, insipid and brooding".
