Who Are We?

Back in the 90s a few climbers and paddlers, surfers and snowboarders in sunny Australia put an image of a skeletal rodent thing on a few T-shirts and adopted the name of Feed The Rat.

The climbers in our gang knew of the book written by Al Alvarez and explained their understanding of Mo Anthoine’s philosophy on life and climbing………and so began the snowball effect of our own philosophy mixed with his and every other adventurer that took their game half seriously; they all wanted to fly the rat flag and since then the ethos has grown into what we now do in life.

Now we have a truly global network of these like-minded freaks who thoroughly endorse the Ratfeeder ethos and who spread the word to the world.

We get masses of supportive e-mails every week and even a couple of really funny ones that claim we are a huge evil, child murdering multi-national set on global domination and the burning of villages. From the kit that we sell, about a third goes to central fund to be allocated by us towards "official" FTR trips. About a third goes back in to running this so-called business and about a third goes to the individuals who shift the kit. Not pushy sales reps (people come to us to get stuff) but students and adventure bums who have planned a trip and need the funding for it to happen. We think this is ethically sound.

Our own personal journeys in the outdoors are too diverse to write here but whether we came through surf, rock , air, snow, rivers, mountains or biking we are all Ratfeeders and understand that life is too short for bullshit……so I’ll stop right now……..and go surfing.

The (mis)management.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.

"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good - he is joy, peace, love,  hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,
"Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied,

"The one you feed".

So you have read through the lifestyle comparison and reckon you're a Ratfeeder; you can get one of these super warm, super black, super ratted hoodies. They're real heavy duty 400g fleeced cotton so not too good to wear on those tropical summer days in full sun.....however....if you want to do that then you're too stupid to wear one, so you can't.

They go for A$120 - no haggling, no freebies, no extras...you get the money to us (Australia) and we post it to you (anywhere). You can sleep peacefully at night knowing that your hard earned cash went to furthering the cause of the rat.

Here is a currency converter

Adopting a Rat hoodie brings responsibilities. Every time you wear it you will be quizzed by just about everyone who sees you...Where did you get that?....What does Feed the Rat mean?...am I allowed to buy one?...can you get one for me?..etc etc. It is your responsibility to be an ambassador for the rat, and not to hit people, much.
