John has been best known in athletics for his four-year domination as the World Marathon Kayak Champion. After moving from paddling to multi-sport races, he also quickly became an international legend in that arena.
He has won the New Zealand Coast-to-Coast race three times. This race holds the reputation as the most competitive solo multi-sport race in the world. He also holds one of the world’s most impressive records of high finishes in the major international adventure races. On the race course, he is known for his prowess in all the disciplines, as well as his competitive, but level-headed attitude.
