"Why do I feed the rat? Because I can’t sit still! Need more, I Krave for more! The need to push the pedals, to hit bigger airtime, the faster I go the more I get fed.

We are in another world from others, it does not matter how much you tried to explain to someone what you do...or what you are trying to achieve.

Why you keep doing so called extreme sports, to outside observer they will never understand completely why we need to feed the rat. The time is now, RIDE!"

“Hi all,

I’ll try to fill you in with the highlights so far. Since I last sent out an update I have been very busy with the awesome lifestyle Whistler has on offer, this place rocks! I am now working full time 5 days in the bike park as a guide taking clients of all abilities from beginner to advance lessons and 2 days a week as a single/multipitch rockclimbing guide.

Crankworx Mountain bike festival has just finished for those who don't know it's one of the biggest events in the world. If you are a mountain biker this is a must see event. I competed in the Biker X and Dual Slalom.

Shannon's hut.

In the Bikercross the weather was awful; pouring rain cold and a super muddy and the slippery track made for very tough conditions, how it works was I had to qualify for seeding by doing 2 time trial runs of the course.

In elite men we had to take the pro line which was a little scary in the wet as it had this 40 foot set down and had to sprint so hard just to clear it. I crashed my 1st run and had a clean run in the 2nd.  I missed out on qualifying as they took the top 8.

The man .....

In the dual event I made it though to the elimination rounds after qualifying in the time trial but only to draw Sam Hill (only the fastest man in the world) and was eliminated I happy with how i raced only was beaten by a bike length.

Now that we have settled in to whistler we have now realised we are feeling a little home sick, not being able to see friends and family or have the normal creature comforts but we are managing now earning the Canadian dollar and enjoying the our new life here.

I got my new KHS downhill bike 2 weeks ago its sweet! And my new KHS hardtail frame is sooo good to ride.

The bike ....

Canada Day same as Australia day but these people really go all out, parade, flags etc we volunteered our time to hand out flags and fake tattoos of the maple leafs; all lots of fun plus we got a free meal out of it I’ll do anything for food …… ha ha!

We have competed in the Loonie Races most Thursday nights; XC races point to point, lots of fun, only cost $2 to enter and you get a free meal and beer after. How good is that?

So much has happened will try to keep you all updated.

Cheers, Shannon".
