As part of the Mt Hotham snowsports experience, we’re running daily instructional classes at the specific snowkiting teaching area near the summit.

Level 1 and 2 classes are 90 minute introductory lessons and when you’re kiting capably, then the half day Level 3 classes at held at The Orchard area which is a chairlift ride away.

What equipment will I need?

We’ll provide you with all the Snowkiting equipment you’ll need including:

• Foil kites: Ranging in size from 1m to 8m.

• Harness: Used for hooking into the kites power and resting your arms

• Helmet: Primarily to protect your head but also for warmth.

You’ll just need to bring normal snowboarding/skiing equipment with you.

If you don’t have these, then we can arrange rental for you.

Kite Lesson Outlines:

The learning curve is very steep with Snowkiting and we will take you through the syllabus where the focus is on you learning in a fun and safe environment.

This syllabus is broken down into 3 levels, starting with basic kite flying and going all the way up to uphill riding and jumping techniques.

Level 1. Kite Pilot. Introduction to kite set-up, safety, power-zone.

Level 2. New Rider. Kite and board/skis together, getting going, J pattern, edging, turning.

Level 3. Cruising. Learning more intermediate moves, holding up-wind and jumping.

Pricing:

Level 1 Kite Pilot. 90 minute class, 7 days per week at Teaching Area, $90 per person.    

Level 2 New Rider. 90 minute class, 7 days per week at Teaching Area, $90 per person. (Maximum of 8 participants per class).     

Level 3 Cruising. Half Day 3 Hours PM only, weekends only at Orchard Area, at $150 per person. (Maximum of 6 participants per class).

1. Monday to Thursday.

Level 1                  9.00 am – 10.30 am

Level 1                  11.00 am – 12.30 pm

Level 2              1.30 pm – 3.00 pm

2. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Level 1 and 2.    9.00 am – 10.30 am

Level 1 and 2.    11.00 am – 12.30 pm

Level 1 and 2.    1.30 pm – 3.00 pm

3. Saturday and Sunday at Orchard Area.

Level 3             1.30 pm – 3.00 pm

Where to meet:

Meeting location for all lessons is outside the Hotham Central building, arrival is recommended 10 mins before lesson time and every group will be escorted to the teaching site by an instructor.

Standards taught to:

Instructors trained to Australian Kite Surfing Association guidelines and teach to Australian accepted practices.
