“One of the biggest challenge southern hemisphere are Aratiatia rapids, just few kilometers down from Huka Falls which is itself the most famous drop in NZ.
The water is released from dam only for half a hour per day and every drop is a crux and totally pushy.
The first descent was made by Fleming Schmitt ten years ago and since then just five more kayakers had run it successfully.
Three of us decided to give it a go during the summer of 2006 and we did it in fine style.
