Choshuenco beach.

Sam Fulbright is back on the road ...

“So I find myself in Chile for the second time and this place rocks! Last year I travelled around southern Chile, so this year it’s time to hit up the north.

Northern Chile is chock full of clean waterfalls, so straight out of Santiago we headed to the Siete Tazas, or Seven Teacups which has 7 perfectly formed waterfalls to it.

They are all super clean and just perfect and the gorge is quite spectacular and filled with crystal clear water. The run doesn’t take long so we had plenty of time to shoot lots of photos and jump and huck the waterfalls.

After the Siete Tazas we left with slightly sore backs and big grins and drove 8 hours south to the Choshuenco.

Choshuenco is a kayaking paradise. The town is a small and comfortable with all the friendly Chileans hanging out on the beach at the lake.

The run is just outside of town and once again it is full of waterfalls.

The drops are all fairly clean but are a little harder than the joy-fest of the Siete Tazas.

The Fuy is a warm water creek with the Chilean clear blue water and small slides, drops and other boogie water all the way up to the waterfall section; the run allows for a sweet warm-up before the next great section of river.

At the waterfall section, the action begins. It starts with a perfect 10 meter drop called Leoana Falls. This drop is so perfect and plugging deep, it allows for some insane downtime.

We had a few people stay down for 10+ seconds, it was an ear crusher. After the 30 footer there is a 5 meter delayed boof with a bit of a hole which allowed for some entertaining but not bad beat-downs. Always a good laugh.

Then you move right into a crazy little slide with some serious funk at the bottom.

Scooting right past it you take about 5 strokes into a little 8 foot boof, this thing was a gnarly bad hole and if one were to biff one, meant you really get crushed.

Then another 5 meter drop which is just perfect for a freewheel madness, a totally awesome freestyle drop.

Now I’m in Pucon and we’re playing more but still hitting up some really fun drops and hopefully finding some bigger ones too but for now just enjoying the Chilean summer, clear water play and the happy people. Sam”.
