“It has been a busy yet successful period for Rapid Descent Racing over the past few months.  With Stew and Dan back in Tasmania after their respective competitions interstate and overseas, and Ben in full flight again following a shoulder injury mid-winter, it is full steam ahead both on and off the water for the three athletes.

All three athletes have maintained their training on and off the water despite the wind, cold, rain, sleet and snow Hobart experienced during the final winter months and into spring.

Stew has successfully completed his university studies for 2007 and is now focusing on the summer’s racing, including selection trials for the Australian team in early December.  Stew’s coaching commitments have continued throughout the winter with the Canoe Tasmania Wild Water development squad.  Squad camps and training days have provided Tasmania’s junior paddlers some great time on the water, and coaching time with Stew and other high level coaches also.

Stew’s coaching commitments also resume with the National Talent Identification Search “Rapid Slayers” junior paddling squad, involving a busy coaching and training schedule organized for Tasmania’s next generation of Olympic hopefuls

After arriving home from Europe with Australia’s first medal at an international wild water event, Dan has wasted no time in settling back into a busy training routine involving 10 on-water sessions and 3 gym sessions per week.  Between training sessions, Dan goes paddling!

He has been involved in the coaching of Tasmania’s aspiring paddlers at various instructional weekends and designed a 2 day training program to assist intermediate paddlers to further develop their skills and prepare them for the Teva Lea X Stream race in October.
